Trinity Women's Swimming And Diving Closes Fall Semester With Setback At Connecticut College

New London, Conn. - The visiting Trinity College Bantams closed the 2019 fall semester with a 178-113 setback against the Connecticut College Camels in women's swimming and diving action this evening.  Trinity falls to 0-2-1, while the Camels are 2-0.  The Bantams return to the pool on January 11 at 1 p.m. on the road against Vassar.  Bantam sophomore Serena Ly (West Newton, Mass.) swept the breaststroke events.  Trinity's three divers were the only ones, and junior Lia Urban-Spillane (Rochester, N.Y.) was first off both boards.

Trinity totaled 12 top-three finishes in the swimming events, led by Ly who won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.19) by over a second and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:34.81) by .35 seconds.  In the 1,000-yard freestyle, sophomore Zoryanna Matlashewski (Anoka, Minn.) posted a winning time of 11:09.11 and first-year Rory Woods (Milford, Conn.) came in third at 11:27.04.  Matlashewksi was also second in the 200-yard individual medley at 2:18.07, and classmate Aurelia Umholtz (Flagstaff, Ariz.) placed second in the 200-yard butterfly at 2:19.54.  Trinity junior Samantha McStocker (Weston, Conn.) was third in both backstroke races, while rookie Rachel Papalski placed third in the 200- and the 500-yard free races.  Sophomores Olivia Fournier (Southington, Conn.) and Erin Murphy (Gansevoort, N.Y.) came in third in the 50- and the 100-yard freestyle, respectively.
