Williamstown, Mass. - Trinity College junior Elena Pellegrini (Leghorn, Italy) won two matches to reach the third round of the Intercollegiae Tennis Association (ITA) Division III New England Regional Championships at Williams College this weekend. Pellegrini downed Mount Holyoke's Ayame Yazawa with a dominant, 6-1, 6-2 performance in the first round, and rallied back from a 6-4 loss in the opening set to oust No. 2-seeded Chloe Henderson, of Williams, with a 6-4 win in the second set and a 10-6 triumph in the super tiebreaker on Friday. She lost, 6-3, 6-0 against seeded Jackie Bukzin today in her third-round match. Bantam rookie Marta Drausnik (Zagreb, Croatia) lost her opening-round singles match, 6-0, 6-0, against Amherst's Camilla Trapness. In doubles, Drausnik/Pellegini upended Gorman/Kandar from Middlebury in the first round, 8-5, on Friday, but lost to the No. 3-seeded pair from MIT in the second round by the same score today.
