Women's Track and Field Has Strong Showing at Amherst Spring Fling

Amherst, Mass. - Freshman Abbey Allardi (Reading, Mass.) finished fourth or better in three events on Saturday at the Amherst Spring Fling Invitational to pace the Trinity College women's track and field team to a fifth place finish out of nine schools. Junior Katie Tonyai (Jaffrey, N.H.) and senior tri-captain Lily Talesnick (Denver, Colo.) both had multiple top-five finishes as well. 

Tonyai finished third in the 100 meter dash, less than .40 seconds off the lead while adding a second place finish in the 200 meter dash to earn a combined 14 points towards the Bantams team total. Freshman Anna Barnes (Storrs, Conn.) finished sixth in the 400 meter dash while senior tri-captain Abigail Barrett (Hingham, Mass.) and senior Michaela Powers (Middleton, Mass.) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 5000 meter run for an additional six team points. 

Allardi took third in the high jump and fourth in both the long jump and triple jump for a combined 14 points. Talesnick finished third in the shot put with a finals distance of 11.15 meters and also finished sixth in the discus throw and third in the hammer throw. 

Trinity returns to action next weekend for the Connecticut College Invitational on Saturday and Sunday in New London.
