Trinity’s Bonnie Edmondson Named Team USA Track and Field Head Coach for IAAF World Championships

Hartford, Conn – Trinity College Assistant Men's and Women's Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Coach Bonnie Edmondson has been named as the women's head coach for Team USA at the IAAF World Championships in Doha, Qatar. Edmonson will lead the women's team, after coaching the female throwers at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and Team USA at the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championships prior to that.  

Edmondson, a two-time national champion in the hammer throw, is in the midst of her eighth season as an assistant coach at Trinity. As an athlete, she was ranked as high as No. 20 in the world and was ranked in the top-five in the United States in the women's hammer throw from 1990-1996.  She has coached at all levels, including high school, college and with Team USA. An assistant coach at the 1998 World Junior Championships, Edmondson was Team USA throwing events coach also at the 2012 and 2014 IAAF World Indoor Championships.  

Edmondson was also the throws coach for the Pan American Junior Games in 2008, the IAAF World Track and Field Championships in 2003, and the IAAF World Junior Track and Field Championships in 1998. Edmondson has served as the USATF Olympic Development Co-Coordinator for the women's hammer throw, and is a past member of both the USATF Athlete's Advisory Committee and of the USATF Women's Track and Field Executive Committee. In addition, she was awarded the USATF President's Award for her contribution in the promotion of the hammer throw on both the national and international levels. Edmondson is a member of the United States Throws Coaches Association, is a USATF Certified Coach, and has conducted numerous clinics at the United States Olympic Training Center.
