Danbury, Conn. - The Trinity College women's volleyball team was shut out by the Western Connecticut State Colonials (25-21, 25-20, 25-21) on Wednesday evening in a non-conference matchup in Stephen Feldman Arena in Danbury. Trinity falls to 1-3 overall with the loss while Western Connecticut State improves to 7-1 on the year.
Sophomore Hanna Engstrom (Hopkinton, Mass.) led Trinity offensively with 10 kills on 22 attacks while senior tri-captain Randi Whitham (Weymouth, Mass.) tallied a team-high 26 assists. Engstrom added seven digs as well, two less than sophomore Rachel Underwood (Danville, Calif.) who led the squad with nine. For Western, senior Karissa Smith (Bristol, Conn.) led all players with 13 kills while classmate Cady Cordes (Fallon, Nevada) finished with a game-high .438 hitting percentage.
Trinity returns to action on Friday at 8 p.m. when they play hosts to New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) foe Middlebury, followed by a showdown with Hamilton the following day at 1 p.m.
