Hartford, Conn. – For the fourth time this season, three sets were all the Trinity College women’s volleyball program needed, downing non-conference Mitchell College 3-0 on Tuesday night. The Bantams, now 5-5 on the season, were paced by senior Colette Scheffers (Floosmoor, Ill.), who had a game-high 11 kills in the win.
After a slow start to the contest, the Bantams picked up the tempo midway through the first set. Trailing by as many as seven points, Trinity used a flurry of kills from sophomores Ally Conde (Killingly, Conn.) and Hareena Johnson (Los Angeles, Calif.) to level the score at 20 points apiece. Two kills from freshman Molly Bernstein (Oakland, Calif.) gave the Bantams the lead, and a handful of attack errors from the Mariners gave the first set to Trinity.
After a quick 25-14 second set, Conde and Scheffers combined for nine kills in the third. Despite a late attempt from Mitchell, the hosts were able to walk out of Oosting Gymnasium with a 25-20 set win and a 3-0 match victory.
Scheffers led the game with 11 kills, and was followed closely by Conde, who finished with nine of her own. Senior Wyllie Boughton (Andover, Mass.) led the team with 20 digs, and added a team-high .200 hitting percentage with eight kills. Sophomore Locke Luhnow (Los Angeles, Calif.) led the team with 19 assists.
The Bantams are on the road Friday, taking on Worcester State at 7 p.m. before returning home on Saturday.
