Feenstra Leads Trinity Women's X-Country To 14th At NCAA Regionals With Record-Setting Race

Brunswick, Maine - Senior co-captain Samantha Feenstra (Cape Elizabeth, Maine posted a 12th-place time of 21:49.71 to lead the Trinity College Bantams to 14th as a team in the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championship Meet this afternoon at Bowdoin College.  Trinity totaled 374 as a squad to finish just three points shy of 13th-place Coast Guard and 56 better than 15th-place Brandeis in a field of 54 schools.  Feenstra will receive All-New England recognition for her outstanding performance and has a good chance to qualify as an individual for the NCAA Division III National Championships at Spalding University in Kentucky next Saturday.  

Feenstra was less than a second out of 11th place and more than six seconds faster than the 13th-place finisher.  She bested her own Trinity record for the 6,000-meter race by 19 seconds to become the first Bantam among the top 20 at the New England Women's Championships since 2004.  Three other Bantams crossed among the top 80 runners, led by sophomore Isabella Montes De Oca (Carpinteria, Calif.) in 71st, junior Julia Burdulis (Hopkinton, Mass.) in 75th, and senior co-captain Nina Bourgeois (Rochester, Mass.) in 79th place.
